Overview

Client is looking to work with a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) within their Medical Affairs Department within the field of minimally invasive urological surgery. The MSL is a specific role with the primary purpose of establishing and maintaining peer-to-peer relationships with clinicians, patient care teams, and operating room administrators.  An MSL must have both professional education and clinical experience (OR case experience, OR management experience) that enables effective navigation of the restricted access to industry representatives imposed by various regulations and/or providers.

Medical Science Liaisons will operate with a three-pillar approach:

  1. Medically led stakeholder engagement – Lead medical and scientific exchange across stakeholder groups.
  2. Market-driven focus – Communicate value utilizing metrics that are relevant for each stakeholder group. Work with Marketing teams to collaboratively develop marketing information.
  3. Custodians of the benefit-risk ratio – Provide medical evidence and real-world evidence about clinical and economic outcomes.

Responsibilities

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  1. Field-specific interpretation and contextualizing of emerging data to provide scientific exchange through peer-level engagement, medical information, publications, and medical education.
  2. Identify clinical practice insights including unmet medical needs, research and data gaps, patient journeys, treatment pathways, current standard of care, epidemiology, patient outcome gaps.
  3. Generate real-world and value evidence that focuses on patient outcomes and informs patients, providers, payers, public, and policymakers.
  4. Engage in peer-to-peer scientific dialogue to serve as a proactive external partner driving full disease area strategy.
  5. Acts as the primary resource in educating healthcare providers and other decision makers on the safety and effectiveness of products.
  6. Call focus will be with physicians and other Healthcare professionals (HCP) that are involved in product and procedural decision-making.
  7. Develop client HCP training programs.
  8. Work cross-functionally with marketing, sales, regulatory, and product development to provide medical and scientific expertise to influence business strategy and decision making.
  9. Contribute to the introduction and evaluation of new product launches and marketing materials as well as providing training to new hires. This individual will also support internal sales training workshops as needed.
  10. Contribute to the development of support and training materials, as well as with clinical trials and Regulatory Affairs studies, as needed.
  11. Handle unsolicited requests for off-label information by providing medical information through scientific exchange in a fair-balanced manner.
  12. Act as subject matter and technical expert resource to Account Executives for the product portfolio and imaging platforms.

Essential Elements:

  1. Reports directly to the Medical Director with oversight from Chief Medical Officer.
  2. Ability to work independently and make effective decisions while taking general direction from the managing team.
  3. Highly collaborative and works effectively with direct team and others cross functionally.
  4. Travel requirement will be 60-70% to attend conferences and customer sites.
  5. Professional writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  6. Protects employee and customer confidentiality.
  7. Transparent and efficient documentation of activities.

Qualifications

  1. Completion of clinical education, i.e. BSN, NP, RN, PA, with current or former registration or license for practice in the US.
  2. Operating room/procedure room experience is essential.
  3. In-depth knowledge of the field-specific position.
  4. 5 years minimum of clinical experience.
  5. Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
