Overview

The Director, Medical and Scientific Communications will be a leader in driving the direction of Client Pharmaceuticals global communications plan for Client products, as well as future indications and products. Reporting to the Head of Medical Affairs, this person will be responsible for leading our efforts in medical/scientific communications and publications, along with competitive intelligence. The role will have an ongoing strategic impact on planning, designing, and structuring key components of Medical Affairs strategic plan for current clinical and commercial objectives in support of our Phase III commercialization, late-phase development, pipeline indications and strategy. This role will collaborate with the medical, clinical, and commercial teams to ensure consistency with our materials, messaging and corporate strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Head of Medical Affairs and cross-functional partners in formulating a scientific/medical communications strategy in alignment with the Client business strategy;
  • Have tactical oversight of the development and deployment of internal and external strategies including publications and scientific communications, and assist in the development of training materials and other special projects as needed;
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners in the planning, development and review of scientific communications and publications content,
  • Ensure accurate and impactful deliverables such as: abstracts, manuscripts, podium presentations, posters, and materials for education, advisory boards, medical booths, etc.;
  • Manage activities to include the development of SOPs, SRLs, guidelines and publications;
  • Ensure that the scientific platform and lexicon is accurate, up-to-date, and reviewed annually;
  • Provide oversight of the Client medical library resources;
  • Ensure awareness of key internal/external insights and track, disseminate and curate topics of interest appropriately, and ensure that all copyright laws and guidelines are followed;
  • Oversee Client competitive intelligence efforts;
  • Collaboratively develop and independently oversee the Scientific and Medical Communications budget; research, synthesize and propose ROI budget plans for publications and other initiatives;
  • Develop and maintain appropriate metrics/KPIs for effectively monitoring quality and timeliness of all medical communication and information activities by utilizing various tools and techniques such as media monitoring services and conference abstract reviews.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree (PharmD, PhD, MD) with 5+ years of pharmaceutical medical affairs experience OR master’s degree with 8+ pharmaceutical medical affairs; prior experience in Medical Affairs within the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Clinical or research experience in cardiology is preferred;
  • Three + years of Scientific/Medical Communications/Publications experience is required;
  • Experience in Medical Information is a plus;
  • Proven track record of strategic activity deployment and leadership oversight;
  • Must have outstanding project management skills and be highly proficient with organizational planning, and project management tools;
  • Experience collaborating with statisticians, clinical staff, KOLs and other internal partners to align on publications strategies and produce high-quality publications;
  • Experience in managing people and budgets;
  • Experience assessing and critically summarizing relevant scientific literature and producing deliverables appropriate for audiences of various levels of scientific understanding;
  • Experience reviewing information for regulatory submissions for product approval;
  • Analytical and research development toward creating infrastructure for marketing materials, brochures, and physician education programs that support product development initiatives and expansion of commercial indications is a plus;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. required

  • Able to travel approximately 20% of the time, including international travel when appropriate.
