As Field Director, Medical Affairs, you will play a pivotal role in shaping field medical strategy, building and managing a high-performing MSL team, and driving scientific engagement with KOLs and healthcare professionals. Reporting directly to the Head of Medical Affairs, you’ll be at the forefront of launch planning, cross-functional collaboration, and embedding a culture of compliance and scientific excellence.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute national field medical strategy, including territory design, deployment models, and scientific engagement plans.
• Recruit, scale, and directly manage approximately 5-7 MSLs, fostering a culture of coaching, mentoring, and high performance.
• Establish and maintain field excellence standards, including performance frameworks and KPIs.
• Personally engage in the field as a credible scientific peer, driving compliant scientific exchange with HCPs.
• Lead identification, mapping, and tiering of KOLs and high-impact clinicians.
• Co-own the medical insights process, translating insights into actionable recommendations.
• Build field medical infrastructure to support product launch and future indications.
• Partner cross-functionally with medical, commercial, and clinical teams for launch planning.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry guidelines governing scientific exchange.

Qualifications

• PharmD, MD, or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline required; candidates with a master's degree and substantial field medical leadership experience will be considered
• 8+ years in Medical Affairs at a pharmaceutical or biotech company, with meaningful field medical leadership experience
• Demonstrated track record of recruiting, hiring, building, scaling and managing MSL teams
• Strong scientific credibility and ability to engage at a high level with KOLs and academic clinicians as well as community-based practitioners
• Hands-on familiarity with MSL excellence standards, compliant scientific exchange, and field insights processes
• Experience engaging both specialist and primary care audiences across health systems and community settings is highly desirable.
• Preferably, experience in smoking cessation, nicotine dependence, or an adjacent therapeutic area (pulmonology, cardiology, perioperative, oncology, acute medicine)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• A builder - energized by ambiguity, early-stage environments, the opportunity to shape something from the ground up
• Leads from the front; equally comfortable setting strategy and doing the field work without needing those to be different jobs
• Strong scientific communication skills with the ability to operate credibly across KOL, academic, and community clinical settings
• Organized, proactive, and able to operate autonomously in a fast-moving pre-launch environment
• Collaborative partner with the ability to work cross-functionally and bring the wider business along on field medical priorities
